Advent Calendar: Day 8

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 5:14 PM
I'm supposed to post a picture that makes me angry/sad today, but as I mentioned yesterday, I'm not a picture-saving person. I'm even *less* likely to know of pictures that make me angry/sad. SO INSTEAD, I'm just going to put this wonderful Christopher Eccleston photo up here:

And let you all benefit from his gorgeous smile and big ears. ♥

In other news, OMG ALICE. XD I think the writing is a little rough... you can only use the "Wonderland isn't supposed to make complete sense anyway" excuse for too long... and I get the feeling that a lot of their character-motivation-explanations got left on the cutting room floor... but it's still wonderful! ^_^ I've been watching it on Megavideo, but it will only let me watch 50 mins at a time. So I watch it for an hour, then do homework for an hour... a nice system.

But OMG HATTER. WHERE DID THEY FIND THIS ADORABLY GORGEOUS, DIMPLED, CHEEKBONED, BROWN-EYED MAN!? *DED*

Procrastination! 30 Days Meme

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 2:40 PM
Now I have to catch up. DX

day 01: your favorite song

Right now? It's gotta be this one. I heard it on pandora, bought it on iTunes and now it's on repeat.

From Where You Are - Lifehouse

day 02: your favorite movie

That's definitely The Fifth Element. I watched it 15 times in a row when I was in middle school. There are a lot of other movies I've loved, but I could have never watched them 15 times in a row. Plus, there are a lot of one-liners from the movie that I could quote and at least one person near me would know what I was talking about. Coz it's epic like that. :)

day 03: your favorite television program

That's a toughie. I don't think I really have one right now. I mean, there's the Daily Show, but I've always watched that and I don't really consider it a TV show...more like a fake news show.

I think my favorite television program of all time has got to be Babylon 5, because it was an absolutely awesome Sci-Fi drama from beginning to end, and the plot tied up nicely. It had great character with interesting back stories...and it wasn't afraid to be light-hearted.

day 04: your favorite book

I think I'm going to be completely ridonkulous and mainstream, and say Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. It was my favorite book of the series, right after the book I hated the most...and the Harry Potter series made me start reading books, which I had never had an interest in doing before. So yeah, thanks JK Rowling...your writing has its flaws, but dammit if you didn't inspire millions of children all over the world to pick up a book.

day 05: your favorite quote

"Life's a bitch and then you die."

Succinct and to the point, that. XD

day 06: Whatever tickles your fancy

ERM...I've been watching this anime Kimi ni Todoke and it is the sweetest, most heatfelt thing I have ever watched! I was in tears by the 4th or 5th episode.

WATCH IT

day 07: A photo that makes you happy

ERRR...

LULZ

day 08: A Photo that makes you angry/sad

...On a number of levels

That's Sarah Palin, btw.

BBC Doctor Who Advent Calendar Day Eight

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 8:24 PM
In preparation for Christmas and the premiere of this year's remaining Doctor Who specials, the BBC's official Doctor Who website launched their online advent calendar for 2009 last Tuesday. The advent calendar will feature many exclusive treats over the next seventeen days and door number eight on the calendar is now available to open due to the fact that today is the eighth of December. Behind today's door, there is a new behind the scenes video which takes a look at what happened Cassie and Jimmy after the events of Dreamland and this video can be viewed here. Content from behind the calendar's previous seven doors can be found here, here, here, here, here, here and here. This year's ninth door on the calendar will be available to open sometime tomorrow afternoon and details about the next advent treat will be posted on this site soon. What do you think of this video?
For those of you who remember, two months ago, Mike had a TIA incident and wound up in the hospital for a few hours.

Since then, he's run through a battery of tests to figure out what caused the attack. It's a general consensus that Mike is too young to have a stroke, so they're trying to rule out if it's the holes in the heart that he was born with. After the initial round of testing in October, he underwent a couple more rounds after my visit in November. He was also referred to a cardiothoracic surgeon to see if his heart caused the TIA incident. See, Mike was born with two holes in his heart. They've been monitored all his life and about 18-20 months ago - not long after we began dating - he was told that they would no longer needed to be monitored annually.

Today, he went back to the first doctor to have the results be discussed. His doctor was shocked that Mike hadn't seen the surgeon yet, because he was suppose to two months ago. In the meantime, Mike has prescribed rat poison, otherwise known as Warfarin. He'll may start that on Monday after he goes to an anticoag clinic at the Ronald Dahl clinic. He had to take a blood test today to see if he can even handle it.

Meanwhile, my supremely awesome future mother-in-law went on the warpath. She went back to her ward (she runs the dialysis ward at Liverpool's big hospital, the Royal) and tried calling the surgeon's office and kept getting bumped to the answering machine. So she called other secretaries and the surgeon's secretary was apparently nearby and not answering the phones. So she went to the switchboard operator and forced a call through to the surgeon's secretary and proceeded to read a riot act on him. The secretary claimed not to know who Mike is, but said they would do an emergency appointment if they refax the letter. Mrs. Heaton goes back to Mike's doctor, who is also now pissed at the surgeon's secretary because he did send in all the required referrals. Then the secretary calls Mrs. Heaton back and has "magically" discovered the letter, which he claims they only got on December 2.

So the surgeon should review Mike's notes on Friday. If he feels that Mike needs surgery right away, it could be done on December 22nd. If he can wait, then Mike will have an appointment with him most likely on January 22nd to see if he needs surgery.

This all, by the way, prompted the following conversation between me and Mike:

Me: If they do surgery, nothing is keeping me away, you hear?
Mike: Sweetie...you can't do that
Me: Just letting you know ahead of time.
Mike: *sighs*
Me: What if I was to have surgery?
Mike: Umm...
Me: Your British ass would be on the first plane, wouldn't it?
Mike: If I could yes

Meg: 1, Mike ... we won't embarrass him with the score. ^_~

If Mike has surgery, it will be through a catheter to close the holes in his heart and hopefully that'll be that. I've already spoken with one of my supervisors at work, and he said that if the surgery happens after the first of the year that they can push my vacation up as priority given the situation.

It's been a very hard week for me emotionally (not just due to this), and so I wound up cradling Peekaboo and crying myself to sleep. I feel like a limp dishrag at the moment, and am probably going to be escaping the apartment for a few hours to process everything. Mike's a little scared and I am too. Mike will be going back for more tests and will have to get them frequently while he's on the Warfarin. Other than that, it's a waiting game right now.

Can 2009 be over with yet? Please?
Each year, at our Atlanta Gallifreyans' December meeting, we have a winter holidays dinner (I'm saying winter holidays, because there are rather a number of them, just not Christmas!). :)

Our next meeting will be Saturday, the 19th of December. We are hoping to get an early start, so we will let everyone know closer to the date how early we can arrive at the site, which will be, as usual, the Doraville Civic Center, near the intersection of I-285 and Buford Highway, on the north side of Atlanta, GA, USA.

This was the Writer’s Block question today:

If you were asked to recommend one destination in your country to LiveJournal friends who had never been to your country before, what place would you choose, and why?

I lol’ed. Everything sounds so Hetalia’ed nowadays, lol. And, well. Since Lulu is the fifth largest country there are lots of places to recommend. I haven’t been to all famous spots and I’ve lived here all my life. I think it’s more expensive to visit the Northeast State-tans than, say, Argentina.

So, considering the places I’ve been to, I’d say, first, Iguaçu Falls. And then Rio de Janeiro.

I mean, look at that. )

And nao for some meme tiems:

▪ Leave me a comment saying "Suddenly an unconscious Argentinean fell through my roof."
▪ I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
▪ Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
▪ Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

[info]zulenha asked (and I translated for the hell of it):

1. How long does it take for you to write a story?
2. If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would you want to meet?
3. What did you want to be when you were chibi!Marizinha lol what a cute question
4. What’s your oldest memory?
5. What would you do if an unconscious Argentinean suddenly fell though your roof?

Okay LJ is screwing up, making this not work very well. So, here is what I'm going to do, I'll link to this page every day for the rest of the month and remind you that you can request fics. Pan fandom (ask if you don't know if I'd write it). Up to two every day. AND YOU WILL GET THEM WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS.

REQUEEEEEEEEST. I don't want to do my homework.

Also everyone thank you for the cookies. I was going to sent a whole lot more out but apparently they're gone. D: YOU ALL HAVE THEM IN MY HEART.

And yes I'll write the stuff you guys already requested on this post. To clarify, it'd be great if you started requesting anything (be it final fantasy or naruto or whatever) on the post I linked.

Deathcakes

Still, they tasted nice, even if Spiderman's face became grey goo.

I'm making TF2 cookies for when I visit my 'clan' buddies on the 21st. I kind of hope they come out as unique as the cupcakes. At least the cupcakes were memorable.

Shelter Photopost #16

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 4:18 AM
Weekly shelterpost, and it includes puppies this time.

Some people have cats and go on to lead normal lives. )

I don't know what was going on with today, but the static was crazy. The cats were demanding to be petted but I didn't want to because it hurt! I got shocked so many times. They didn't seem to notice, however.

Also, it is freezing.
